Troopers seeking help on Chapman’s activities

State police are looking for more information about Joseph W. Chapman's activities since his escape from McKean County Jail in Pennsylvania in July 2007. Chapman was wanted for escape as well as sexual assault of a child and rape.
Chapman, whose picture and information appeared on an episode of America's Most Wanted, was living as Joshua Thompkins in Arkwright. Jeannie Storey, a resident of Stockton, called the New York State Police on May 20, and told them she believed the person living as Thompkins was Chapman. Fredonia troopers with the help of the FBI, the U.S. Marshals, and the Dunkirk Police Department, confirmed Chapman's identity and he was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail. On May 22, Chapman was transferred to the McKean County Jail where he is currently being held.
Investigation by the New York State police into the time after Chapman's escape revealed he was living and working in East Amherst, Depew, Gasport and Newfane prior to moving to Chautauqua County in the fall of 2011. His employment reportedly included construction work, handyman, and security. The OBSERVER has learned that the airing of the segment on Chapman which was originally scheduled for tonight is now set to air on June 22. June Kim from the publicity department of America's Most Wanted reported that the program will be preempted on Lifetime.
