Cameron County Unemployment At 17.1%

Courier ExpressUnemployment rates continued to rise in Jefferson and Elk counties in March, while the rate dipped slightly in Clearfield County.The Tri-County Area is broken into three areas by the state Department of Labor and Industry: DuBois and St. Marys micropolitan areas and the Jefferson County labor market. The jobless rate in St. Marys was 13.8 percent in March, compared to 13 percent in February and 5 percent in March 2008.The unemployment rate in Cameron County is the highest in the state - 17.1 percent - up from 7.8 one year ago.The jobless rate in the DuBois MSA was 10.9 percent in March, down from 11.1 percent in February.
