Cameron County Unemployment At 17.1%

Courier ExpressUnemployment rates continued to rise in Jefferson and Elk counties in March, while the rate dipped slightly in Clearfield County.The Tri-County Area is broken into three areas by the state Department of Labor and Industry: DuBois and St. Marys micropolitan areas and the Jefferson County labor market. The jobless rate in St. Marys was 13.8 percent in March, compared to 13 percent in February and 5 percent in March 2008.The unemployment rate in Cameron County is the highest in the state - 17.1 percent - up from 7.8 one year ago.The jobless rate in the DuBois MSA was 10.9 percent in March, down from 11.1 percent in February. One year ago, the unemployment rate was 7.1 percent.The jobless rate in Jefferson County in March was 9.8 percent, up from 9.4 percent in February. A year earlier, the rate was 5.9 percent. More...
