Update on Thomas Smith


UPDATE on Thomas Smith: A lengthy letter, allegedly written by fugitive Thomas Smith, was left at the Cameron County Echo office sometime Monday.
Authorities are not sure if the letter is legit. They are examining video footage taken by Sheetz' security cameras that allegedly captured the delivery of the letter. Autho
rities are trying to determine if it was Smith in the video.
In the letter, Smith allegedly says he plans to turn himself in.
No additional details from the letter are available.
Police are working the lead and keeping details quiet to protect the ongoing investigation.

REWARD OFFERED

Update on Thomas Edward Smith (Wanted for gun point abduction of Emporium women on 8/8/12)
The Emporium Borough Police advise that together with the PA Crime Stoppers reward of $2,000 for information leading to the whereabouts and or arrest of Thomas Edward Smith, two other private citizens added another $3,000 to make to current reward $5,000.00.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.


Police ask that if anyone has any information concerning the whereabouts of Smith to call police at (814) 486-3384 or contact PA CRIME STOPPERS for a reward of up to $5,000.

GE to keep paying departing executive $89,000 a month


John Krenicki, who led Lawrence Park-based GE Transportation from 2000 to 2003, has left the General Electric Co., but he'll still be collecting a check.

A pretty substantial one, by most standards.

Krenicki, who was a vice chairman and head of the company's energy business when he left GE two weeks ago, will receive $89,000 a month for the next 10 years. The payment, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal, is being called a retirement allowance.

OP-ED: Pa. should pay real costs of voter ID


There are nine counties in our state that have no Pennsylvania Department of Transportation photo ID center. For people in towns like Emporium in Cameron County and Eagles Mere in Sullivan County where no PennDOT facilities exist, they will have to put in more than the ordinary effort to get to their closest center in an adjacent county, perhaps taking more time to get there and back than the average worker's lunch hour.

Mary Ellen Nelson, 92, of Papillion Manor, 610 S. Polk St, Papillion, Nebraska formerly of Emporium died at Papillion Manor, Papillion, Nebraska Wednesday (July 11, 2012) evening.

She was born May 12, 1920 in Kersey a daughter of the late James and Ethel Edwards Huston. On July 8, 1961 she married the late Lamont Irwin Nelson.

Mrs. Nelson lived in Emporium most of her life and lived at Silver Creek Terrace in St Marys PA for 5 years, before becoming ill. In June she came to Nebraska to be cared for by her daughter and finished her life in Papillion Manor in Nebraska in the loving care of her daughter and grandchildren. She was the first in her family to graduate from high school. Mary worked for over 20 years at Sylvania. She was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Emporium where she served many years as a Sunday school teacher and Deaconess.

3 Grandchildren Patrick, Kaitlin & Jennifer Davis
Sister: Betty, Mrs. James Morean, St. Marys

5 Sisters: Mildred Hunter, Dorothy Mertz, Stella, Elsie and Margaret Huston
4 Brothers: Norman, Thomas, Francis and Edward Huston
There will be No Visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service  at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church Sizerville Road, Emporium on Monday, (July 23, 2012) at 11:00 AM with Rev. Mark Conklin, Pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium.
